SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday school teaching aims to train our children in the way they should grow by inculcating faith in God and commitment to Christian values and spiritual principles. Our Sunday School, a vital part of our Congregation initiates and nurtures children to abide with God, respect, appreciate and follow the Bible, and learn to live in a community.

Christchurch Mar Thoma Congregation Sunday school has been a vital part of the Congregation since its beginning in 2018. Dr. Babukutty Yohannan was the Sunday school Headmaster during the initial period, and it was led under the leadership of former Vicar, Rev. V.T. Kurien. Now, by God’s grace, we have grown significantly and blessed with 31 children and 5 teachers.

Our Sunday School Motto is ‘Come to Jesus, bring every child to Jesus’. Sunday School classes are held on 2nd and last Saturdays of each month at St. Barnabas Anglican Church from 5.00 pm to 6.30 pm, followed by prayer service. Our Sunday School sessions follow the curriculum of the Diocese of North America and Europe. We have classes from Nursery to Seniors. Each session includes a common time of divine worship, bible reading by students, singing, learning the books of the Bible through videos, and other hands-on learning activities in class. Through this valuable learning, our children are imparted with life lessons that equip them to face challenges and resist temptations.

Sunday School also organises and participates in a lot of events including World Sunday school day, talent competition, Christmas carol night, carol rounds, Vacation Bible School, family picnic, fund raising auction, craft and bake sale, non-communion service and so on.

In February, a special dedication ceremony dedicated for students and teachers marks the start of our academic year. In November, we observe World Sunday School Day and in January, during the school holidays, we organize our Vacation Bible School (VBS). An annual exam will be held in October and afterwards, we will be busy with preparations and practice sessions to showcase the talents of our children and teachers in the World Sunday School and Christmas programs.

 

It is the responsibility of every Congregation member/parent to prepare the next generation of our children to follow Christ faithfully. Everything that we do helps our children to grow in faith and stay connected with our Church. We praise God for the wonderful ministry and His grace that supports us. Our Sunday school is so proud of the faithful dedication and support of our Vicar, teachers, parents, committee members, and worship coordinators.
